Celestial Show

The total lunar eclipse last night was spectacular in Virginia. These photos are horrible, but at least they show the various stages. The last one is as close to total as it got. The moon turned an amber color, and actually looked like what you would expect Mars to look like if it were that close. It looked much more like a planet than a moon. We went inside at total stage because it was cold, so I didn't get coming out stages. The whole family stood on our back deck and watched with binoculars. That REALLY looked cool! I got the coolest green reflection orb in the first photo!

And oh yeah -- Stupid me realized AFTER I took all of these that I had left my polarizing filter on my lens the whole time! It's a very dark filter used mostly in bright sunlight! Duh! No wonder these are fuzzy! What an amateur!

oh, yeah, these are HORRIBLE photos. Puhleeze! These are great! It was cloudy and raining here, so we couldn't really see it. They had to show live shots from the east coast for us. Bummer!
