Here is a picture our former mayor took of us last night at a Rotary Social function.

Thats cute :) Are you guys really outside? how pretty!

I wanted to ask you... do you guys get bad hurricane weather in Danville? Does it get really humid there? Are there lots of bugs and mosquitoes in the summer? does the snow stick for a long time or does it kinda come and go? Anything else you care to share? :)

Ashley,

We are standing inside a screened room, so the background is really outdoors, but we're inside!

As for Virginia, here's the deal:

We have 4 complete seasons. We have lots of rain in the Spring, heat in the summer, beautiful colors in the fall with cool evenings, and winter that gets cold, and occasionally snows. The snow is almost always gone in a day, but there are exceptions. We Do have humidity, bugs and mosquitoes, etc., but not like Louisiana! Virginia is a beautiful state, and we love it here. We don't like bugs or icy weather any more than anybody, but it's not enough to keep us from enjoying the positives of the area. The cost of living is fractional compared to many other places (like the west coast). The 4 seasons are beautiful. The attractions in the area are close, and it's just a more laid back environment.

Every place has good and bad. We find that how we set up our home and life activities is what makes the real difference. I can be as happy in Montana as I can in Vermont!

Oh -- hurricanes? Only on the coast. We get an occasional rain pour from hurricanes that end up hitting land, but by the time it gets to us, it's not a hurricane anymore! We are 4 hours inland from the nearest coastline.

The bottom line is that is a definite adjustment for someone living in Arizona, California, or some place like that. But that's life! I don't miss the big city at all!

I definitely don't miss the big city. I miss not having 50 below winters and basically being stuck inside for half the year. I try to get out in the winter, but the weather is so harsh that even stuff that should be fun like sledding and snowmobiling and making a snowman... not so fun.

We deal with humidity and mosquitoes here too. It's not anything I enjoy, but I've learned to deal with it for the most part. In the city they spray for mosquitoes it's in the country that it's really not fun.

I was just curious cause Eric has started to budge a teeeny bit about moving which I never thought would happen and I've always wanted to live either in Oregon or somewhere like Virginia. In fact I remember when I was in second grade my teacher had books about all the states and I was in love with the virginia book because of the beautiful scenery.

In North Dakota we have one incredibly long season (winter) and three short seasons. Spring hasn't even really started as we just had a blizzard this weekend and once it starts it will be summer and hot, humid and buggy. Then Fall starts in October, sometimes september and the leaves turn and fall off the trees literally within 2 weeks, sometimes less! I'm just tired of it. I love the size of our city, which is close to the size of Danville, and the cost of living is obviously so much less than the west coast. It's just the weather.

Anyway, thanks :) I asked Eric about Virginia and he said he would be worried about hurricanes which I didn't think would be a big deal but he said they would. Now I can tell him I know someone who said they aren't a problem :)

We're fine. Bad weather was well east of us. Remember, we have ONLY perfect weather in Danville! :)

Yeah, I thought about all of our recent weather comments as I was watching the damage from the tornadoes in Virginia on the news last night. Of course, in the same broadcast, they talked about the fires from the extreme heat here in California (in LA). I'm glad you're okay.

My favorite part about the weather here is the rain. It's so beautiful, and not a bit scary. It's the kind of rain you always want to dance in.
