Nope. Not a basketball net. Nice guess though.
I think it looks like a chain sculpture hanging from a ceiling. James says it looks like some sort of light fixture.
BTW, I've been away from your blog for quite some time. It was fun catching up. Great photos, as always!

Ryan is the closest. They are called nanotubes, and they are made with polymers at our Institute lab. The students put them together, and the picture was taken from the bottom, looking up at the ceiling. Ryan wins the fuzzy jelly bean.

So let me get this straight. It IS a sculpture made of different parts linked together, and it IS hanging from the ceiling. Where's MY fuzzy jelly bean?
